Young Astronomers

 
 

JOIN THE ST. GREGORY SCHOOL YOUNG ASTRONOMERS

The St. Gregory School Young Astronomers is a organization for those students who are interested in Astronomy and Space Related Technology. Through monthly meetings and special activities, The Young Astronomers Program strives to inspire youth to improve their grades in Mathematics, Science, Astronomy and related subjects while participating in various activities such as Chapter Meetings, Serving on Committees, Earning Rank, Model Rocket Launches, Star Parties, Super Trips and Ecology Projects which are all designed to build Leadership, Resourcefulness, School Pride, Patriotism, Environmental Responsibility and most of all respect for God and love for our fellow man.
Three chapters are available for grades 1 - 8 and are divided in the following manner: Star Gazers (Gr. 1-3), Star Discoverers (Gr. 4 - 6) and Star Explorers Gr. (7 & 8). Each chapter has three different ranks which can be earned. They are as follows:

Star Gazers Star Discoverers Star Explorers

1.Gazer (Grade 1,2&3)  1.Searcher (Grade 4&5)  1.Adventurer (Grade 7&8)
2.Watcher* (Grade 1,2&3)  2.Surveyor* (Grade 4&5)  2.Navigator*(Grade 7&8)
3.Observer*(Grade 3)  3.Investigator*(Grade 6) 3.Voyager*(Grade 8)

* Previous rank within each chapter must be earned before advancing to the next rank.

Students are encouraged to qualify for rank by achieving several required steps within each level of the chapters. Parent and family involvement is also encouraged on various club activities. Club by-laws and all school policies concerning Extra-Curricular Activities are in effect regarding club participation.   Please refer to the Student-Parent Handbook for specific regulations.

Meetings are generally held the 3rd Monday of each month from 3:45 - 4:30 pm in the Music Room.
